My Personal Thoughts on AI in Medicine

I thought I'd wrap things up for now by talking about my personal thoughts for now.

Much like any problem, there are a lot of people from both sides of this issue with very strong opinions. I think it would benefit both sides to maybe step in the middle for a moment which is what I will try and do right now. I like what AI can do in theory. I can appreciate a technology that is capable of potentially saving lives and can detect things maybe doctors are not seeing. I also understand the privacy concerns that come with it. If I had any power to do so, I would have government-funded research that really keys in on the dangers of this technology to figure out a concrete list of appropriate instances to use AI. This way, many of the people that are weary of it will grow more trusting especially if the risks are clearly expressed and established. The state of this technology right now seems rather unorganized and all over the place.

The biggest thing overall for me has to be transparency. Once it gets to the point that we have established the rules clearly of AI, I will feel a lot more comfortable using it in a medical setting and I'm sure a lot of other Americans feel the same way. Until then, all I can do is hope that this becomes a more widely talked about issue and somehow makes its way into higher levels of government. Until then, we will be stuck in this awkward spot of not clearly knowing the direct and trajectory of AI in the world of Medicine.
